ForDiL App: final stretch!

ForDiL, an application to learn continuous cover forestry approach in the field
Continuous cover forestry (CCF) is based on observation, analysis and decision-making in response to complex forest situations. To learn this approach, nothing can replace hands-on experience directly in the forest, facing real stands and real management choices.

This is exactly the perspective behind ForDiL (Forest Digital Learning), a self-guided training application developed as part of a European project.

A pocket trainer, designed to be used directly in the forest
ForDiL was designed as a pocket trainer, to be used directly on dedicated training sites such as marteloscopes and working plots. In the field, the application guides users step by step to:

  • observe forest stands
  • analyse different silvicultural situations
  • test and compare management decisions.

The goal is to enable autonomous learning, supported by a concrete digital tool, directly in the field and at one’s own pace.

For tomorrow’s foresters… and today’s professionals
The application is intended for:

  • students and future professionals, who want to become familiar with continuous cover forestry through real-life situations;
  • forest professionals, who wish to deepen their practice, reflect on their management choices or explore new silvicultural contexts.
Developed with teachers, students, forest managers and European partners, ForDiL reflects a wide diversity of forest sites, stand structures and management practices.

An application tested in real-life conditions
Before its launch, ForDiL was tested directly in the field by both beginner and experienced forest professionals. Their feedback made it possible to refine the content, usability and features of the application, ensuring it is reliable, intuitive and truly useful on site.

The application is currently entering its final development phase, with these field-based insights being integrated.
